About the event

Experience the allure of the historic Culver House!  Join us for an open house tour filled with rich history, a captivating presentation by Mark Sorensen on the World's Fair Ferris Wheel, and a showcase of student artwork.  It's a day of exploration and inspiration you won't want to miss!

In celebration of historic preservation month, Mark Sorensen will give an illustrated talk at 2:00 pm about how the 250-foot high steel structure created by Illinois native George Ferris became the symbol of Chicago's first world's fair, the 1893 Columbian Exposition.

Former teacher and archivist Mark Sorensen has served on the boards of the Macon County Historical Society, the Decatur Historical and Architectural Sites Commission, the Governor Richard Oglesby Mansion and the Illinois State Historical Society.  May 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of his appointment as Official Macon County Historian.
